Find an original streetlight - the round ones with the black top and the white bottom...............

    And then:

    Discuss: Why did the lights have a black top and a white bottom only shedding light downwards? Remember too that the light was WHITE and not the ghastly sodium yellow that is prevalent these days.

    I will go back and see as ordered...but I think they may have got rid of all of the lovely old streetlights with the beautiful white snowy light...and replaced them with the horrible sodium yellows...But if I find one I shall photograph it...
    ps: I remember horrible ruffians from down the bottom found out how to open them(the original lovely lampposts) up and change the time setting so they came on during the day and were off during the notchy...

    I heard a rumour that a wooden iced lolly stick was a handy too for such opening maneuvers.........

kenton bar football team 1974-75

Here is a photo I found during more extensive research in a library... I remember the football team played for the 'Bagnall Cup' and played 'derbys' v St Cuthbert’s and also v Mountfield, North Fawdon, Wyndham, Montague and Snow Street (we and everyone else always thrashed Snow Street at least 12-0-their home pitch was at an angle of 45 degrees...) Note the' flag pennants' which were inspired by the Leeds United strip from the 1973-74 season on the socks of some of the kids in the front row...these had the numbers of the players on. the 10 first team players are all wearing the blue top with yellow hoop:the' subs' are wearing... whatever! It looks like they must have won the Bagnall cup that year! Anyone recognise themselves or any of the players?... (The tecka is Mr Brownlaw, a true gentleman...)
