New Picture of Kenton Bar – stolen from Facebook

If you look closely enough you can see Michelle Dyer in her bedroom window in Gunnerstone Avenue….this view taken from the field in front of Hillsview school is my guess.

  3. here-here half tongued idiot geordie type:
note also how most of this riff raff have little beady evil eyes...and sit leaning forward in an almost aggressive stance, ready to explode, hands on knees ready to turn into fists...whereas on the kenton bar football team photo they all have innocent owl like eyes, sit layed back, and their hands on knees are ready to turn only in the clasped hands of prayer...

  5. I remember Spence(Hedgie-number9) throwing impailed locusts like darts into the back of the goalkeeper(number 1)kenny'the peasant' Walton's blazer at kenton in a biology lesson...I also remember him doing this with a set of minature darts in a maths lesson at Kenton, shouting "180!"
    poor Kenny...

  6. why was hedgie so named?...

  7. Ratty's proper name was Graham Ratcliffe...

  8. Topps(number 5) has an expression here reminiscent of Bruce Forsyth...
    'good gayme, good gayme'!
Incidently, when Topps played football I recall he ran with the ball with a slow lumbering gait reminiscent of Chris Waddle...but he was not as good as him obviously...
Factoid:Of this team only Topps and Wayne(no 8) made it into Kenton Comp team A in the first year at Kenton...they were no way as good as us lot from glorious Kenton Bar Estate, trained by brilliant Mr Brownlaw...5 of us made it on Kenton Team A!

  9. I seem to recall their strips were red tops with white shorts...can anyone confirm this?
Kenton Bar played in magestic dark blue with a magnificent gold trim + state of the art sock pennants with numbers on them, Mountfield: red tops and red shorts, St Cuthberts:brown monks robes...

  15. I saw Topps lumbering along the other day and ordered him to stop. I asked him about the girl in the photo-he confirmed it was indeed Alison Smith who, like Spud actually lived on Kenton Bar but chose to go to that school of riff-raff(Hillsy) rather than noble Kenton Bar Primary...

  16. In one respect they were ahead of their time:the only team to my knowledge who at that time had a girl playing...nowerdays much more common in primary schools.

  17. 'Hedgie'(Number 9) was so named apparently due to his spikey hedge-like hair at the front...
There was also a'Bangers'(Dont know if he is in this photo)from Hillsy of this year group who I was so named because he had a fixation with this firwework ...apparently he always had them on him to 'hoy'...

  18. I lived on Kenton Bar here and there, used to go back to see me nanna, don't know if anybody remembers people talking about the White lady, but I saw a lass in a white midi dress yelling and screaming running down hartburn walk, lived in those flats that jutted out on to the field. it was about 2 in the morning, but nobody else heard her, she was yelling to someone, dont leave me, stay with me, it was really creepy. First I thought she was being chased by somebody, nobody in front or back of her, and I could see all the way down Hartburn walk, front and back windows. She was barefoot too, which was strange, no coat in the middle of November. Was about 12 at the time. i wanted to call the police, still thik she might've been real. Very Strange.

    1. The white Lady was a local legend that streached from fawdon to kenton and maybe beyond? I lived in fawdon before moving to kenton B E and all the kids used to be really scared of the white lady, we would'nt go in the feilds at night or cross the stream because we thought the white lady was out there. There were heaps of kids in fawdon who used to say they'd seen her, who care's weather it's true or not i'ts great we had our own local legend, The white lady was supposed to be a rich landowners wife who was killed by her husband around in the 1900s, this page is bringing back great memories, thanks.

  19. Yeah - I remember the white lady story. it was a tail used by parents to con their kids into thinking that going out after dark was somehow dangerous. The tail of the white lady had various manifestations one of which was that she only came out after dark and walked down the school field onto the estate and then basically wondered about. I never heard of any tails where the white lady actually hurt or bothered anybody - she just swanned about like a fucking useless ghost that did nowt.........

I therefore think your recollection is a false memory - but a nice memory jogger nevertheless - the White Lady was a common tail for kids on Kenton Bar Estate and part of the rich mosaic that IS Kenton Bar - this is a TRUE blast from the past. Well done anonymous poster!

  20. Master, I object to your comment about ghosts being f*****g useless...I am a ghost now as you know, and I find your comment most objectionable...'the others may be unsavoury but I am not'...

  22. Maybe she was real, I was the only one that heard her. True though, parents telling their kids tales like that would keep them home, not these days though with all the telly shows about ghost hunters, hey that would be funny if somebody went to look for the white lady, lol!!! Probably was just and old wives tale!

  23. No, I don't know who you are referring to I this , I say anonymous Because I don't have any Internet acct! Oh BTW, I attended Kenton Bar Primary and Kenton Comp, not Hillsview, also college in the USA! My name is Amber, I like to keep things friendly, you're the first one on here that's actually been Mean SPIRITED, I'm no idiot dear !

  24. Amber - this is El Patron. I am going to delete this idiots comment. The gormless twat does not even know how to use punctuation or capitals - what a wanker. Everyone knows it was "Hillsy". Even the word "dumkopf" is incorrectly spelled...

  25. Thanks so much, didn't know what I'd said to upset them so much! I love this site and I love keeping in touch with everyone! I have friends that went to Mountainview, I think the kids that went to Kenton Cimp or Kenton secondary as it was before Kenton Comprehensive actually attended Kenton Bar Primary, Mountainview, or Hillsview, I remember going to the play center over at Hillsview, all our schools were great back then especially our primary's, gave us a good start anyway, made us good people!
