Here is a photo I found during more extensive research in a library... I remember the football team played for the 'Bagnall Cup' and played 'derbys' v St Cuthbert’s and also v Mountfield, North Fawdon, Wyndham, Montague and Snow Street (we and everyone else always thrashed Snow Street at least 12-0-their home pitch was at an angle of 45 degrees...) Note the' flag pennants' which were inspired by the Leeds United strip from the 1973-74 season on the socks of some of the kids in the front row...these had the numbers of the players on. the 10 first team players are all wearing the blue top with yellow hoop:the' subs' are wearing... whatever! It looks like they must have won the Bagnall cup that year! Anyone recognise themselves or any of the players?... (The tecka is Mr Brownlaw, a true gentleman...) wonderful find master!
ReplyDeleteMaster, do you remember that time you were getting off/on the mental 10 and the driver shut the doors of the bus and your body was inside the bus whilst your head was outside the bus?...or was it the other way round?...please tell...I remember you just stood there, and did not panic which made the scene more hilarious...
The master's reference to the driver swigging from a sherry bottle is based on a true event...we had been down the duke I believe possibly on New Year's Eve/xmas eve and boarded the mental 10...the master offered the driver a drink from the bottle of sherry that the masters was peeting away on(so this would suggest we were on our way to the duke?)anyway, much to my amazement the driver accepted the master's kind offer, took the bottle and gulped down about half of it then handed it back!
ReplyDeletemaster, you ommitted to say that it also has seats:you will recall that by the time the mental 10 reached the terminus in the heart of darkest North Kenton it had neither windows(top deck) nor seats(upper & lower deck), the seats being chucked out the sliding upper window section(they just fitted-sideways) just before the stop where they(ruffians& bounders) intended to get off so they could then go back and collect them(the seats were much coverted at that time as nadsat bedroom furniture accessories)...the lower window sections of the upper deck as you imply had been tolchocked out out and out...can you think why?...I know...
ReplyDeleteThe driver looked like the bloke from Dexy's Midnight Runners
