Cube Flats – Original Colours? – or something near anyway….

Dear GOM

I thought you might appreciate this picture from Google Earth showing the cube flats before the council shat on them with that insipid cat turd colour. I do believe that this is the same block you took a picture of in your post HERE judging by the aerial on the roof

Why can’t people just leave a good thing alone……………

  1. Better but as beautiful as the photo on p43 of Ritter's book where the cube is pristine and gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh...the window frames are white whereas here the frames are cally brown...nor are there the three white horizontal lines circumnavigating the bottom of the windows...incidently note flat 2 is in a different layout to flat 1&3 by the look of the windows(flat 2 has 2 single windows visible, 1 & 3 look identicle in layout judging by their windows...why so I wonder?...all the other housing types were designed so each adjoining house was a mirror image of its neighbour in design...

  2. All satellite dishes and TV aerials should be torn down - desecrators

  3. GOM - as you can see if you look at your photo on the original post the middle floor is rotated so I suggest the floor layouts were the same on each floor and the rotation is to accommodate the staircase, there being no lifts in those days.....

  4. hmmm...you think so?...I sadly never managed to get into a cube flat, but accessed all other types of housing on the estate over the years...incidently there used to be a metal washing pole with a washing line connected to the flat situated in the grass to right of the the block in the photo...dont look like its there now...so how do they dry their washing?...

  5. I have it on good authority that apparently only the bottom floor of the cube flats seem to use the washing line(if there is one)...floors 2&3 just dry them inside via radiators...apparently the lower floor flats are allocated to 'families with babies'...
Interestingly apparently if there is no washing pole like I said(stolen by scrap metal merchants?...)then they just tie a line from the ground floor flat somehow to a nearby lamp post...(I will look out for this phenomenon & photograph it...)

  6. I had a weird dream last nigh I am sure inspired by the cube flats and the Borg cubes that GOM posted. One of the blocks of flats had been uprooted and was being carried away by a helicopter - somehow slung beneath it............byt the time I got my camera the flats were gone. Analyse that!!
