FLAMES leap from the roof of a Tyneside terrace as families flee their homes after a freak fire breaks out.
Blasts could be heard as gas cylinders exploded in the heat and smoke billowed into the sky ... but residents seemed unaware of the dangerous drama unfolding above their heads.
As one of the first on the scene, Chronicle reporter Sara Nichol shouted for the occupants of the houses on Hazeldene Avenue, Kenton Bar, Newcastle, to get out, while another passer-by phoned the fire brigade.
Within seconds, the police arrived and immediately evacuated people from their homes.
