the stone owl

The blog received this email from an anonymous tortured soul...I thought the tale was frightful and dreadful, but the master ordered me to up the post on the blog, as he is unavailable...

Once upon a time long long ago(20 years at least) there was a drunken idiot lurching/staggering home from the Peacock in the dead of night, a flip dark winter bastard though dry...
On his way past a bungalow on Kenton Bar Estate he saw through glazed drunken eyes a beautiful ornate stone owl perched on a stone branch in the little square garden out the front, the pride and joy of the humble residents there-in...'wouldn't it be funny', his befuddled drunken brain suggested 'if you took that beautiful stone owl and took it to (Name removed by blog administrators) house, crept down his back garden path and put it on his kitchen window ledge so that in the morning when he or his mother came down in the morning they would get a terrible fright seeing an owl staring at them?'
So that was what the drunken idiot did...rip off stone owl...take stone owl to (Name removed by blog administrators) house...creep down back garden path...place stone owl on window ledge staring in...
However...
the next morning the drunken idiot woke up at 4:00am...a feeling of dark foreboding and dread began to dwell on him...he had done a bad thing, but what was it?...suddenly the true horror of his evil deed dawned on him...oh no, why?...what if the police were called?...in a panic the horrible bastard went and got a shovel, crept out in the still darkness before dawn, retrieved the stone owl and took it down the fields across from Hazeldene Ave...there he dug a shallow grave and buried the poor owl...but it did not help...guilt..remorse..fear...several days later the thieving bastard went out in the dead of night and dug the owl back up...he then crept back to the bungalow and put the owl back from whence he had stolen it...
the next day he went back to see if it had been re-cemented back to the stone branch...it had not...only the sad stone branch stood there, like an accusing finger, pointing at the horrible filthy thieving bastard as if to say 'we know what you did, you filthy thieving horrible bastard...we know...in tears the filthy thieving horrible bastard stumbled away into the night, sobbing his horrible heart out to live with his horrible guilt for the rest of his horrible life...
and the stone owl?...I can only presume the poor resident decided to relocate it in his/her back garden instead...or perhaps it was too late...perhaps the poor owl was dead...
THE END
