kenton bar football team 1974-75
Here is a photo I found during more extensive research in a library... I remember the football team played for the 'Bagnall Cup' and played 'derbys' v St Cuthbert’s and also v Mountfield, North Fawdon, Wyndham, Montague and Snow Street (we and everyone else always thrashed Snow Street at least 12-0-their home pitch was at an angle of 45 degrees...) Note the' flag pennants' which were inspired by the Leeds United strip from the 1973-74 season on the socks of some of the kids in the front row...these had the numbers of the players on. the 10 first team players are all wearing the blue top with yellow hoop:the' subs' are wearing... whatever! It looks like they must have won the Bagnall cup that year! Anyone recognise themselves or any of the players?... (The tecka is Mr Brownlaw, a true gentleman...) PS:Photo not taken at Kenton bar school-note the basketball net-maybe taken at Kenton school?...) Kenton Bar Pyramid Appreciation Society
This is wonderful...the azure feature of the photo give it an omnipotent and mystical quality...taken from the field looking north west at some point in the morning judging by the shadows...in the background, clearly visible, she herself, our beloved, majestic pyramid...Dr Raj's surgery might be visible but unfortunately photo is too blurred...the white door in the concrete wall we have alluded to before on the blog-Shades might refresh our memory in this respect...lessons on, kids visible top & bottom end classrooms...no football pitch markings so may have been taken in the summer term(June/July)...wonder who took the photo?
ReplyDeleteA wonderful find that has made my day!
Well done El Patron!
I believe that the two rectangular shapes to the left hand side of the pyramid at the end of the shops MAY be the windows from Dr. Raj's surgery? Although the bricks were black/blue.....
ReplyDeleteThe white doors are for the school gas meter. I was very disappointed when I found that out, I imagined an underground labyrinth under the upper plaza when in real life all there was was piping. (& a gas meter the size of a twin tub washing machine).
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten that there was a fire exit door next to Mr. Brown's class (bottom left), indeed I never went up that staircase, only the other one out of shot to the right.
Shades - what do you reckon on The Bosnian's theory about the rectangle shapes being the windows of the Doctor's Surgery? By Jove I personally think he is right.
ReplyDeleteIf only we could get a photo looking due west up the ramp...
