Buses on Kenton Bar Estate

Courtesy of http://oldtwbustime.wordpress.com who gave kind permission for me to reproduce these timetables from their site. It is interesting to see that there was a direct route from Kenton Bar Estate to south of the river Tyne. I am pretty sure such routes no longer exist but they did in my day.

One memorable time I had been to see a viewing of “Jaws” with Spill and a few others and we got onto the number 10 to come home. Trouble is we got caught the one going in the wrong direction and ended up on Gateshead High Street with no inkling how to get home and no money either. I “think” we scrounged some money from passers-by to get home. Spill may remember this if he is reading……..?
Hit “read more” to see more of the timetables and so on and so forth.

TWPTE (1979): 8/9/10 Kenton Bar Estate(8)/Montagu Estate(9)/North Kenton(10) – Leam Lane Estate(8)/Springwell Estate(9/10)

The ’8′ more or less operates the same route as either the 15 or 15A (I can’t remember) does now between Newcastle and Kenton Bar Estate. It then operates via the current ‘Fab 57′ route to Fewster Square where it terminates.

The ’9′ operates via the current 31 route between Montagu Estate and Newcastle then the ‘Fab 56′ route to Springwell Estate.

The ’10′ operates similar to its current route between North Kenton and Town (except it goes via Great North Road instead of Claremont Road) then, like the ’9′ operates along the current ‘Fab 56′ route to Springwell Estate.

  2. Yes El Patron I can remember getting the bus to Gateshead by mistake. We'd been to see jaws at the Odeon i think.it was just over the bridge on gateshead high street but seemed like miles away to us mate!! I think Gunna Watson was with us as well. We scrounged bus fare to get back home!!!

  3. Spill - what was the name of the kid who lived next door to you? Was it Gary Brown or Gary Wright? I bet the fucker is a millionaire porn star or something by now unlikely as it seemed at the time

  4. I once came out of school and got the bus to Gateshead to go and explore the "Get Carter" car park.

I was "caught" by the (Car) Parkie who refused to believe that I hadn't bunked off school on the basis that I couldn't have got to Gateshead that quick.

So, here is the evidence of my innocence- 25 minutes 40 years too late.
