Teachers and staff from the old days at Kenton Bar Primary School
Can anyone remember the names of their teachers and has anyone got some tales to tell?
- Mrs. Brown
- Miss Holmes
- Mrs. Usher
- Mr. Brownlaw
- Mr. Hurford
- Mrs. Blacklock
- Miss Swinton
- Mrs. Ryan (I think that was her name)
- Mr. Pyle
- Mr. Lamb the caretaker
- Mrs. White the school secretary
- Mr. Johnson – Headmaster
These are the ones I remember – some anecdotes about them later. Can anyone else add to the list?

wasn't there a Mr Watts(John)?
ReplyDeleteMr El Patron, Blacklock was called Blacklock not Blackclock...she looked like that wooden wise owl(made of bits of wood and it wore like glasses) off some kids TV show in the 70s but I cant remember the name of the said owl nor the TV show.
ReplyDeleteBack in 1968, we had Mr. Brown who was a short, bald miserable bugger who wore brown suits.
ReplyDeleteWe spent 45 minutes a day upstairs with the lady teacher for 3rd year who taught us French, I don't recall her name.
The Headmistress was a bit of a loon, I can't quite remember her name but it was something like Cardigan, Jersey, Jumper, Jerkin, Pullover...
I remember Mr Brown, think he got in trouble for touching peoople the wrong way, I also remember Mrs Brown, Mr Pyle and Blacklock rings a bell too!
ReplyDeleteRemember Mr Brown, was a pervert, Mr Pyle, actually saw him in our flat one day, he took me mother for a spin on his motorbike, he liked her and took her out one night, she never did tell me what happened, but I know they liked each other alot, but she was seeing someone else at the time. Me mam was dead bonny like, used to be a beauty Queen, Joan Malam!!!
ReplyDeleteDidnt like Mrs Brown, she was a punisher, always smacking bums like!!!
ReplyDeleteMrs Usher was lovely to me when my siter got knocked over. I witnessed the accident and was distraught that I'd be late and she'd tell me off. Other teachers were Miss Whitfield who married Mr Blake. Mis/mrs Poxton, miss Gaskill, Miss Townsend who became Mrs McNamara. She was tiny and drove one of those cars that had wood panelling with cushions on the seat to help her see out the windscreen!
ReplyDeleteI saw her exactly 21 years ago at Wansbeck Road shops...I cant remember what shop t'was in...
ReplyDeleteWhat about Mr Nelson, who used to play the guitar and taught us all about "The Lambton Worm?"
