Kenton Bar Celebrities:Mr Mottram

Mr Mottram was a lovely old bloke...he used to often stand outside his house at the top of Hazeley Grove and was a proper gentleman who spoke to everyone and whom all the kids respected back in the 80's...he kept guard on his alley and no bounders & cads dared lurk there in the darkmans(be off with you you varmits!!!)...When we grew up and became young men we used to love having a chat with him in the Duke Of Wellington...he spoke like Churchill(but with a geordie accent) and was a very intelligent & interesting man...alas I fear he has passed on to a better place after I found this:

'A well loved community figure has passed away as he approached his 80th birthday...A memorial service was held for Edward Mottram, who died while visiting his daughter in America.
Known as Eddy, he was the secretary of Kenton Bar Tenants and Residents Association and a member of many charity groups.
He was a true charity champ and worked for the young and old, able-bodied and disabled, to help improve their lives.
Eddy was a great man and will be massively missed by everyone who knew him.
He was involved in so many charities and organisations across the years, you would lose track.
But certainly the people he was involved with never forgot him.
He was a fount of knowledge - if you didn't know anything you just asked Eddy and he'd tell you...Eddy was one of a kind and the world is a lot worse off without him.
At the service Eddy's daughter read out a eulogy. She said: "Eddy believed in public service and helping the less fortunate. He told me from the earliest time it was my duty to speak out if ever I encountered injustice."
Mr Mottram is certainly worthy of the 'Kenton Bar Celebrities' Award and Jimmy, if you ever read this, next time you have a pint please toast your dad on behalf of me and & the master, who also had a lot of time for him!-if you send a photo to the blog we will put it up on this post if you would like us to?
