The Bagnall Cup

Hello there!...
I have been thinking of late of the Bagnall Cup, which I remember well...I seem to recall it was like covered in writing(cant make it out from this cropped image)...Round the base I am sure were placed little plaques(screwed on) denoting schools who had won it and in what year...
I wonder however:
a) Why it was called the Bagnall Cup' and...
b)Where might it be now?
(the days of Saturday schoolboy football are alas long gone...)
any suggestions welcome!

  2. Hello anonymous-John Marley was a secondary school(11-16), but the Bagnall Cup was played for in junior school(7-11), so I dont see how you could have won it-unless there was another cup of the same name in secondary school?- will make enquiries- thanks for the contribution

  4. Following enquires I have been told that the following teams played for the Bagnall Cup:
Kenton Bar, St Cuthberts, Mountfield, North Fawdon, Cragside, Wyndham, Mountfield, Snow Street, Montague, Sanyford, Thomas Walling, Chillingham Road, St Charles and possibly Hillsview...as well as the Bagnall Cup there was a league and also a county cup...squad members used to get a lovely little booklet every term with loads of info including fixtures and league update...

    1. I have just came across this blog. The bagnall cup was played for by all newcastle schools who played football. There were 3 leagues minor north, minor east and minor west. St. Cuthberts won it in 1967 beating east league winners wharrier street and west league winners Delaval road on their way to the final which they won 4-0 beating neighbouring school Mountfield in the final played at Edgefield school.
