Rare picture of Thirston Way
Don’t know who the doll is in the photo but it shows a nice picture of the gas 4 bedroom houses on Thirston Way. Note the black stuff on the walls, the lack of garden fences and a clue to the date - the window vent on the kitchen window that were only fitted by the council after North Sea gas arrived.
Anyone guess the date?
wonderful find master, well done!
ReplyDeletenote also the beautiful blue sky...in them days we also used to have summer...
ReplyDeleteNote also the 'communal path' down the front of all the houses...great for the postman/milkman...
ReplyDeleteand the potato headed potato boy, pools collector, provvy woman and Rediffusion collector...
ReplyDelete1970.........4?
ReplyDeleteI lives in No 16 thirston way and I'm trying to figure out whare this pic was taken. As it seem the view is looking down hill I assume its about No 9, which was to the back of our houses.
ReplyDeleteLove the pic though
That should have read 'lived in' not 'lives in' :-)
ReplyDeleteSuperkev61 - I am guessing that you lived in the same street as the Clarkes? - and your family name begins with L and your brothers Mark and David?
ReplyDeleteThis photo is outside No. 63.
Hi bosnian
ReplyDeleteJust looked again and they must be the houses oposite where we lived. There was a small green between the 2 sets of houses with a random hump in the middle of it? Can't really remember the names of those living in our street as i was only 10 at the time but i don't have any brothers. My Surname is Binney and next door to us was one set of relations also called Binney and at the bottom of the street was another set of relations (mothers side) Called Calvin. They had 3 lads called Jimmy, John and Tyson. Dunno if this will shed any light on our time there.
ps where that pic was taken did a family called the Tinter's live there?
Kev you got it dead right about the location - opposite the little green with the two humps. Great for cycling over and playing Japs and Commandos. I remember the Calvins and the Binney's but you were a bit older than me, you probably played with my elder brother, so we probably did not go to school together. The Tinters - yes I do think you are right about them living at 63 next to the Thew's- ghastly clan of ruffians though - best avoided :)
ReplyDeleteI'm just about to hit the big 50 bosnian so that gives you more to work on, who was your older brother btw?
ReplyDeletePs, you forgot, cowboys and indians, kicky the can and fox and hounds. Such halcion days
ReplyDeleteAlas dear Kev my real name must remain anonymous. Suffice to say that I recognise your name and the age you mentioned is bang on the money - my brother is 50 next year too.
ReplyDeleteBugger, you got me thinking now Bos my friend. Can't you give me an inkling to your brothers name? His first name might help???? I'm trying hard to think of friends I had that had younger brothers, did he play in the footy team with me?
ReplyDeleteNotice no downpipes under the kitchen windows?
ReplyDeletesuperkev61 - my brother's name begins with a 'D'. AFAIK he never played football. Please don;t mention the name out loud in the blog - if you want to play guessing games then use the "Contact El Patron" link on the right hand side of the blog near the top.
Notice how the windows could be opened wide with a hinge at the top edge? - now they all have nasty little suspicious narrow slits at the top that hardly let in a breath of air..........
ReplyDeleteI think that girl is perhaps Caroline or Thelma Tinter???
ReplyDeleteYvonne - whoever she is she is a doll
ReplyDeleteI used to live at number 5 back in the early 90s
