kenton bar football team 1974-75
Here is a photo I found during more extensive research in a library... I remember the football team played for the 'Bagnall Cup' and played 'derbys' v St Cuthbert’s and also v Mountfield, North Fawdon, Wyndham, Montague and Snow Street (we and everyone else always thrashed Snow Street at least 12-0-their home pitch was at an angle of 45 degrees...) Note the' flag pennants' which were inspired by the Leeds United strip from the 1973-74 season on the socks of some of the kids in the front row...these had the numbers of the players on. the 10 first team players are all wearing the blue top with yellow hoop:the' subs' are wearing... whatever! It looks like they must have won the Bagnall cup that year! Anyone recognise themselves or any of the players?... (The tecka is Mr Brownlaw, a true gentleman...) PS:Photo not taken at Kenton bar school-note the basketball net-maybe taken at Kenton school?...) Kenton Bar Pyramid Appreciation Society
A truly wonderful photo...I love the angle of the shot...interestingly you can see that once the oligarchical Tory government of the 80s let people buy their council home, the proud owners immediatly put up low wooden fences to mark out their boundry...GET OFF MY LAND!
ReplyDeleteso here we can see who are the home owners and who are the council tenants...
thank you so much fancythat!
Aha Mensforth ya dafty - that dates it to post 1980's then
ReplyDeleteMensforth - yeah - I was a child of one of those capitalist buyers of proletariat property. I am sad to say though that we had the misfortune to live next to the most awful group of plebs that I have ever come across. The monstrous sons of the family were tearaways, the father and mother did nothing but drink and smoke. My god they even had NO FENCE around their horrible garden.
ReplyDeleteA ghastly experience.
Hear man yu litl daftys

What happened next was the council tenants(if they could be bothered) simply followed suit...that is to say they also put up fences...did they bother about planning permission?...I dunno...so now you had fences everywhere, with no uniformity of style...
ReplyDeleteWhoops, there goes the neighbourhood. People even started to put up TV aerials in the socialist utopia.
