Kenton Bar School Badge

The school now has a uniform and a badge, unlike when I went some 30+years ago...
I'm guessing the plane icon is to do with the school's proximity with the airport( Incidently, see blog post 'flat roofs on kenton bar point 1)...but what's the castle like tower thing all about?...
here is the badge-note the school colours, blue and yellow and see the post 'kenton bar football team 74-5' for confirmation of the heritage...

  1. The Castle is the Keep, a leftover from Badge Mk. 2 when the KSS was dispensed with.

I'm struggling to remember whether the badge was Mk. 1 or Mr. 2 in my time there.

  2. It certainly had a uniform 30+ years ago. Dark trousers, dark blazer, black shoes, white shirt, school tie. For girls dark skirt & navy blue knickers.

1969-1976 certainly. They relaxed the sixth form bit slightly, you could wear a dark jacket & the Prefect tie.

  3. Dark jacket without the breast pocket badge, that was.

  5. Sorry, my apologies, I'm getting muddled with the new Mark 3 Kenton School logo. You are right, no school uniform in my time either, which was '68/69.

  6. I always remember that KBPS had two rather unusual appendages- a sticky out box from the hall into the lower Piazza that was a cupboard for storing the dinner tables in (half hexagons when I went).

There was also another sticky-out bit from the first classroom into the playground, that had curved walls. (No idea what that one was used for but it was the Reception class in my time).

The R&Y book describes the design with eight classrooms, the four upstairs ones being intended for the Juniors. Our fourth year one was downstairs though at the kitchen end, probably because Mr. Brown was a curmudgeonly old codger.

  7. Just to add to this, the school has a new enlarged entrance which is where the table cupboard used to be.
