Bygone Kenton Bar 1
Kenton Bar, with the old Kenton Bar pub(inn) on the right. The finger post indicates Kenton Lane, and beyond it an old toll bar.Tolls were collected until the early years of this century. This view therefore looks north up Ponteland Road. So what's the estate named after students, the pub or the toll!?
The estate and the pub were named after Stan Kenton the jazz pianist who often used to be seen wandering drunk in those parts.
