The Bible 2

Hello...
I upped a post('The bible' 7.11.2009)when I was wittering on about the bible you were given on arrival at Kenton Comprehensive...after extensive research I managed to find one!
Here is a photo of it...as I said it was(is) hardback, red with yellow writing...I'd forgotten about the 3 black pillars...now look at the text on the first page...imagine being 12 in the late 1970's with a reading difficulty having to read this, each letter being about 3mm, written in old english...
note the numbers down the sides of the first page...anyone remember what they were for?...incidently I always liked the illustrations by Horace Knowles...note he signs his initials on the illustration here...
ReplyDeleteThey are Verse numbers, hence the expression "Chapter & Verse" when someone is being overly detailed.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember my bible having illustrations in, or those pillars on the cover. Mind you, I never paid it much attention!
We have included your blog in our guide Around The World.
ReplyDeleteThe guide is both a record of old blogs and a listing of new blogs. Although originally arising from the "City Daily Photo Blog" lists this is an independent publication. Inclusion here does not imply that a blog qualifies for nor is officially a CDPB. Our criteria are that photographs mainly from and related to a specific geographical location (not necessarily a "city" but usually more specific than a whole country or region) are posted at dated intervals (not necessarily daily) and archives are kept which are readily searchable by date.
Please keep us informed of any changes to your details.
IMHO they should not be making you read or learn ANY religious crap, including the bible, at any age. It should be of your own free will and when you are old enough to make an informed choice. Religious education in schools should be banned outright.
