Fresh in from BKB

We spotted the most amazing snowman. It is next to the flats along Hazeldene Avenue.  Well done to the creators  :) Beautiful Kenton Bar

Oh Bugger........

FLAMES leap from the roof of a Tyneside terrace as families flee their homes after a freak fire breaks out. Blasts could be heard as gas cylinders exploded in the heat and smoke billowed into the sky ... but residents seemed unaware of the dangerous drama unfolding above their heads. As one of the first on the scene, Chronicle reporter Sara Nichol shouted for the occupants of the houses on Hazeldene Avenue, Kenton Bar, Newcastle, to get out, while another passer-by phoned the fire brigade. Within seconds, the police arrived and immediately evacuated people from their homes. Mike & Bernie Winters

Who remembers when...... Bernie Winters turned up at Kenton Bar Infants School to pick up his niece? I do and somewhere I have a signed photograph - I will have to dig through my Mum's photos to get it sometime. His niece was called Antonia Foster and she lived on Leeches estate and was in my class at infants school - she was lovely too - bit of a crush going at the time. I wonder where she is now? Bernie pulled into the school in a nice shiny Rolls Royce and waited there for Antonia to finish classes. I cannot remember how we got the photos though. Schnorbitz was not with him :(

A nice note from BKB Folks.

Hi El Patron Have a Happy New Year. It is good to see the blog active again :)    Can you make a mention that there is a great service provided by Newcastle Council called "Envirocall" where you can voice any environmental issues on line and they get it sorted - it may be rubbish, damage to the building, abandoned items, vandalised bins or even icy pavement etc. The link is   https://envirocall.newcastle. gov.uk/wms/f?p=102:2: 3131436610998744     You report it on line and get a reference number and therefore you can track the outcome. It is a great way of dealing with problems. It has been tested and they actually have done several jobs we had asked for. People may think that things have got to be the way they are and that council doesn't care, but from our experience they just don't know about issues, but  when they do, they have it fixed it in most cases.    Regards,   Beautiful Kenton Bar
